The Messiah Simeon Waited For

Day 45, Crown Him with Many Crowns

Psalm 2: 1-6 “Why do the nations rebel
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth take their stand,
and the rulers conspire together
against the Lord and His Anointed One:
“Let us tear off their chains
and free ourselves from their restraints.”

 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord ridicules them.
Then He speaks to them in His anger
and terrifies them in His wrath:
 “I have consecrated My King
on Zion, My holy mountain.”

Psalm 2, in its entirety, is Messianic. It all focuses on Jesus. But it is in a time that has not happened yet.

In this prophecy, it talks about the rebellion of the kings against the holy king in Zion. According to other prophecies, this occurs at the end of time.

So why include it in a Christmas series?

Because Simeon talks about the conflicts that will come because of this child. He will cause the rise and fall of many in Israel. Also, his presence on Earth will cause the thoughts of many hearts to be revealed.

Other posts have talked about Zion and the duality of its nature. It is both earthly and heavenly. But it is also past, present and future.

In this Psalm, God declared His Son, the Messiah, as the ruler of Zion for all time. No matter how people argue with the idea and rebel against his purposes, that is what it is and what will it will be forever.

Even so, people being people, they will rebel. But God says right off the bat that it is in vain. His anger and wrath will terrify those who fight against him.

But for those who love the Son? That is a totally different picture. It is also tomorrow’s post and story.
