The Messiah Anna Longed For

Endless Love Costs

Read Psalm 109: 1-5

Psalm 109:4-5 In return for my love, they accuse me, but I continue to pray. They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my love. (HCSB)

We know from the gospel of Luke that Anna was a prayer warrior. Prayer and fasting was the core of her life. We know from the historical and Biblical condition of the widow, she probably received ill-treatment from time to time. But she continued to pray, to prophesy and to serve God.

The Scripture reading refers to the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Then, in spite of the pain, the torture and the ridicule, he still saw people as lost souls and loved them. Think of how gentle he was with Pontius Pilate. Ponder his glance of correction to Peter. Or that while in excruciating agony on the cross, he provided for his mother’s care and welcomed a thief into the family of God.

That endless love kept Anna serving year after year. Because only that kind of love can redeem.
