The Messiah Anna Longed For

Who Anna Was Created to Be

Genesis 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
And to Him shall be the obedience of the people. (NKJV)

Genesis 49:20 “Bread from Asher shall be rich,
And he shall yield royal dainties. (NKJV)

Sometimes, we humans can find it easy to wonder about our role in this life. Why is one child born to poverty and another to wealth? It all seems so random from our earthly perspective.

Anna was born to the tribe of Asher. Asher’s legacy was basically one of farmland and good cooks. Wonderful if you have dreams of becoming a chef or raising rare fruits. Not so wonderful if the main goal of your life is to serve the Lord.

Anna adored the Lord and worshipped him increasingly through her brief marriage and then her years of widowhood. Perhaps she wondered why someone who did devote her life to the Creator God and longed for the arrival of the Messiah as much as she did could not be part of the lineage. That was limited to the descendants of the tribe of Judah.

But she, just as she was, just as made and designed by her Lord, would be one of the two people at the temple who recognized the newborn Messiah for who He was.
