The Messiah Anna Longed For

Hope

Genesis 21:6-7 Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and everyone sho hears will laugh with me.” She also said, “Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”

Since Anna was a prophetess, somewhere along the way, she learned that God was enough. As she served in the temple, the grief of her widowhood and aloneness turned to joy. As she served God day and night, she came to realize that the laughter of Sarah could be hers.

In the waiting, she would see the Messiah.

Did she know it would be during her earthly life? Or did she know as Job did that “in this flesh I shall see God”?

The hope of the promise kept her serving in the temple. The hope kept her praying and worshipping. No matter how noble, the frail human soul needs hope to cling to. And these hopes gave Anna strength.

Similarly, we should keep serving, praying and worshipping as we look to the second advent. It is more than our hope. It is our promise!
